Why take up Scrapbooking as a Hobby

19 02 2008

Scrapbooking may seem too expensive and too tedious for some. To others, it can be such a rewarding pastime. The following are some reasons why you should consider scrapbooking as a hobby.

1. Scrapbooking is a creative outlet- It’s a way to express yourself creatively. When you scrapbook, you discover new materials and explore how to use them to express your personal style. You learn how to make something that is originally made by you.

2. Scrapbooking is a great way to archive memories- some examples of scrapbooks are baby books and family heirloom books. Baby books include photographs and memorabilia such as your child’s first curl or baby’s handprint. Family heirloom books can include a family tree, historical information and old photographs.

3. Scrapbooking is another way of journaling- some people scrapbook to journal their life’s experiences. The scrapbook may be about their journey to discovering themselves. It can also be a journal of their path to recovery from an illness or another occurrence in their life.

4. Scrapbooking is a way to make friends- Just like any hobby, the more interested you get into it, the more you want to be around people who do the same. You can make friends by joining crop sessions at your local stores, or even by taking scrapbooking classes.

5. Scrapbooking is a way to encourage other people to be creative- some people don’t think they’re creative at all. You can introduce them to scrapbooking by giving them a scrapbook you made by yourself, or take them to a scrapbooking class. Who knows, they might find scrapbooking as interesting as you do.

6. Scrapbooking can be profitable- that’s right; you can make money with scrapbooking. Some people who get into scrapbooking can become consultants. There are companies that get scrapbookers to hold parties and sell their products. The consultants for the parties get a percentage of the sales from the parties.

7. Scrapbooking gives a sense of fulfillment- Imagine all the layout design and color scheming you have to do to match your pictures. Also, trying to find the perfect titles, journaling and embellishments for each page. Each finished scrapbook page is an accomplishment. Something you can be very proud of.

8. Scrapbooking is a great way to give someone a personalized present- it’s hard enough to find a present for someone who already has everything. A personalized scrapbook you made is something they will cherish forever. Not a lot of people will take the time to gather photographs and memorabilia. They will appreciate the time and effort you took into making them this special present.
